Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about Cold Brews in our coffee circle! So we decided to ponder on the greater good and investigate what it is, and how it is made. We have also recommended a few cold brew coffee makers. Cold brew is now widely available, being served in coffee shops and supermarkets alike. However, until 2010, few people had heard of a cold brew. Everyone first heard about it in 2011, when a coffee brewing company called Stumptown Coffee Roasters began selling it in their stores.
Today, Stumptown’s brown bottles have become an iconic emblem in the world of cold brew. It is one of the most widely consumed ready-to-drink beverages.

Well, What Exactly is Cold Brew?
Cold brew coffee is just a concentrated form of coffee that has been brewed at room temperature for many hours. No heat is used in the process; coffee is just allowed to sit in water before being filtered. People are enjoying it by pouring it over ice or diluting it with water, milk, or a milk replacement. In most cases, cold water is utilized. And brewing necessitates a lengthy steeping period ranging from 12 to 24 hours. Cold brew is smoother, less acidic, and heavier in taste than its hot brew competitors.
The beverage has been around for ages, but it was only recently rediscovered. The drink rose to prominence as a result of commercialization and marketing. It is now a regular occurrence on coffee shop menus, and most coffee lovers are acquainted with it.
What is the difference between Cold Brew and Iced Coffee?
Iced coffee is brewed exactly like hot coffee. Essentially it is brewing hot coffee which is poured over ice, making it chilly. As a result, the flavor of cold brew coffee differs greatly from that of normally iced coffee. Because it lacks the acidity and bitterness present in hot coffee, cold brew coffee is smoother and sweeter than iced coffee.
Recipe
Ingredients
1 1/2 cup coarsely ground whole coffee beans (170g)
4 1/4 cup cold water (1,020g)
Directions
- Combine ground coffee and water in a large, nonreactive pot, stirring to completely soak all of the coffee grounds. Cover and set aside for at least 8 and up to 12 hours at room temperature.
- To remove grounds and sediment, strain the concentrate through a fine-mesh strainer coated with cheesecloth, a big coffee filter, or similar filtering media.
- Refrigerate in an airtight container until completely cooled.
- Pour the cooled cold brew over ice and dilute with chilled water, milk, or a milk replacement to taste before serving.
Requirements:
Brewing cold brew does not require any specific equipment. But you do require a filter, and a non-reactive coffee pot or carafe for the coffee to brew overnight. You also might need ensuring cups or a weighing machine to measure your brew.
If you still want to buy a cold brew coffee maker, here are a few recommendations:
In the fridge, cold brew normally lasts 7-10 days. If your coffee tastes wrong, it’s time to throw it out. It may be time to clean your brewing equipment if you discover that your coffee is deteriorating faster than it should be. Old coffee oils stick to surfaces, causing your brew to spoil faster than coffee prepared on new equipment.
Finding the perfect cup of coffee requires a lot of trial and error. Fortunately, making cold brews is a simple process. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to make, so have fun with it and find freedom in the form. It should be simple, and if you’re prepared to wait, you can make a fantastic cup at home.
